Missouri Republican announces he’s gay in response to ‘don’t say gay’ bill

JEFFERSON CITY | A Republican lawmaker from rural Missouri publicly announced this morning that he is gay and called for his party's leadership to denounce legislation aimed at limiting discussion of sexual orientation in public schools.

Rep. Zachary Wyatt, a Greencastle Republican, said he decided to disclose his sexual orientation for the first time publicly because of the debate over the so-called "don't say gay" bill. At a news conference at the state Capitol, Wyatt said this was his attempt to do something truly meaningful with his time as a state representative.

“I will not lie to myself anymore about my own sexuality,” he said.

Wyatt said he informed his family and close friends about his sexuality just last week.

He's moving to Hawaii to go to school in Marine Biology so he's getting the Hell out of Dodge-he won't have to live with the consequences of his honesty for long. And he defended being Republican-including excusing a Republican House colleague who referred to homosexuality as "Billy marries his pet goat".

I guess he's about as good as you can possibly get out of today's Republican party, a self-denying hypocrite who occasionally tells the truth.

Lawrence gave him "The Last Word." While I thought his speech was courageous and moving, it is true that he's leaving the State Senate, plans to go to Hawaii to study Marine Biology. Lawrence also asked him why he chose to be a Republican and he said he's not a one issue representative... I admired his speech, but not his timing.

Nobody's a "one issue" person. Some people have issues that are inviolable, but doesn't make them single issue voters.

I suppose i should say "bravo!" for coming out, but no thanks. Do you know what kind of hateful beliefs it takes to be in the puke party and still be queer?
