American University to host panel discussion on UFOs as part of its Honors Program

It's rare that a university, especially a prestigious one, will entertain any discussion of the forbidden topic of UFOs; but, American University, a liberal arts college in Washington, DC is hosting a panel discussion on the subject Nov 12:

Join us for a special American University panel discussion: UFOs: Encounters by Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials. The panel discussion is based on Professor John Weiskopf's Honors Colloquium Alien Contact: Science and Science Fiction and will feature four prominent national figures.

Col. Charles I. Holt, (Panelist) is a retired United States Air Force colonel and former Base Commander of RAF Bentwaters in Suffolk County, England. In December 1980, while Halt was Deputy Base Commander, he witnessed the famous UFO-Rendlesham Forest incident. Colonel Halt has appeared on Discovery, the History Channel, and has spoken at international conventions.

...................//snip

Dr. Richard F. Haines, (Panelist) is the co-founder of NARCAP (National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena). Dr. Haines worked as a researcher at NASA from 1967-1986. From 1986-88, he served as Chief for Space Human Factors Office at NASA's Ames Research Center.

Leslie Kean, (Panelist) is an investigative journalist and co-founder of the Coalition for Freedom of Information. She is the author of New York Times bestseller UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go On the Record. In 2011, she helped produce a feature documentary for the History Channel called Secret Access: UFOS on the Record based upon her book.

Miles O'Brien, (Moderator) is an independent journalist and previously worked as a CNN journalist, PBS producer, and correspondent. He has won six Emmy Awards, a Peabody, and the DuPont.

I've previously admitted to an interest in Ms. Kean's book and work. I still remain 'agnostic' on the subject of UFOs, (as does Ms. Kean); I've advised people to approach the subject with both an open mind and a healthy skepticism, which is a good way to approach any subject.

You might enjoy a Noam Chomsky talk I just posted in the Video forum:

"The machine, the ghost, and the limits of understanding: Newton's contributions to the study of mind" at the University of Oslo, September 2011.
