Danish imam calls Jews ‘offspring of apes and pigs’

A Danish imam said Jews were the offspring of apes and pigs who should not share land with Palestinians, in a sermon uploaded to the Internet last month.

Mohamad al-Khaled Samha, a controversial cleric who claimed in the past to have links to convicted terrorists, told congregants that Muslims should not accept a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians.

“So how can we – or any free Muslim with faith in his heart – accept the division of Palestine between [the Palestinians] and a gang of Jews, the offspring of apes and pigs?” he asked in the sermon, according to a translation by the the Middle East Media Research Institute, an Israel-based watchdog.

Muslim clerics and leaders have in the past come under fire for referring to Jews as “descendants of apes and pigs,” which some claim is based on imagery used in the Koran.

Humans and chimpanzees share a common ancestor - that ancestor was an ape. That ancestor and gorillas share a common ancestor; that great-ancestor is an ape. That great-ancestor and orangutans share a common ancestor; this great-great ancestor? also an ape. And though it's not on that tree, the great-great ancestor shares a common ancestor with gibbons; that great-great-great ancestor...might be an ape.

Gibbons and Siamangs make up one branch of hominoidea (Hylobatidae), and orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees, and humans make up the other branch (Hominidae). All together these animal are known commonly as "apes". Everything that came after the Hylobatidae / Hominidae split, therefore, is still an ape.

Stuff that comes before that split... might not be an ape. It might be something we would class as a "monkey."

If you are human, you are an ape. and so are all your ancestors going back to at least 18 million years

And if you really want to get into it? Pigs and apes are both Laurasiatheres. Though their last common ancestor probably resembled something similar to this thing.

But I don't think that bigots, of any religion, are that interested in scientific fact.
