Convicted Israeli spy rushed to civilian hospital following sudden decline in his health
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4213391,00.html <snip> "The convicted spy Jonathan Pollard, who is serving a life sentence in the US, has been taken to a civilian hospital following deterioration in his health. His condition was not immediately clear. Pollard, who suffers from various health problems, has been complaining of severe pain in recent days, Ynet has learned. Members of the Committee to Bring Jonathan Pollard Home estimated that the decline in the inmate's health was critical. According to the activists, he was last taken to the hospital in August, when he required emergency kidney surgery. President Shimon Peres, Israel's Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger and Pollard's wife, Esther, responded development, calling on Jewish communities worldwide to pray for his recovery."

3. Executed as a traitor?
|
Isn't life in prison generally the punishment in cases such as this?
Look at Robert Hanssen. |

6. Both went into plea deals

Still, I wouldn't shed any tears if either of them were shanked in prison.

9. Either his sentence was fair and just, or it was not.
|
If it was, then no, he should not be released. Life imprisonment should mean exactly that; both for people like the Lockerbie Bomber and for Pollard.
If his sentence was not fair and just, then he should be released for that reason. |

Butner has a medical facility, suggesting Pollard had suffered an emergency condition that could not be treated by a conventional clinic, said Aaron Troodler, a spokesman for the campaign to release him. Pollard, 57,apparently has since returned to the prison; an official at Butner told JTA on Friday that he was in his regular prison facility."
