Israel 'Legalises' Wildcat Settler Outpost: Peace Now

09 JANUARY 2013

AFP - Israel has quietly "legalised" an unauthorised settlement outpost in the West Bank, the Peace Now settlement watchdog said on Wednesday, in the sixth such move within a year.

Peace Now's Hagit Ofran said the move to legalise the Nofei Nehemia outpost, south of the Palestinian city of Nablus, was taken "a few days ago" in contravention of Israel's commitments under the Middle East peace roadmap.

"Nofei Nehemia is an outpost established after March 2001, and under the roadmap Israel was supposed to remove it," she said.

The status of the outpost was upgraded several days ago when a military order officially established the boundaries of another nearby outpost called Rechelim -- one of three unauthorised settlements that were retroactively legalised by the government in April 2012, Ofran said.

1. Israel has so many outstanding human rights organizations

It's good to see Peace Now bringing this sort of thing to the world's attention.

Thanks to their efforts and that of the myriad of other admirable Israeli organizations, Israel is held to a level of accountability not always seen in that part of the world.

3. "Israel is held to a level of accountability..."

And it ignores it efficiently.

6. Too bad that PeaceNow is hated by so many hard leftwingers....

...for being too Zionist and rightwing, in favor of 2 states, land swaps, and against RoR.

4. What? Peace Now is accusing Israeli of taking other people's land

and legalizing the theft within their corrupt legal system?

And you have the unbridled temerity to post such balderdash?

I'm shocked that you would bring up such a disgraceful and unfounded insult about such a piece-loving Democracy, shocked I tell you.

What unkind barbs will you throw at that beleaguered nation next: that their own politicians want to annex parts if not all of the West Bank in some orgy of colonialism?

How dare you have the nerve!
