Violent Protests Erupt In West Bank; Protester Dies Of Wounds

The fighting in Gaza threatens to spark a wave of violence in the West Bank. Hundreds of Palestinian protesters on Monday clashed with security forces in several locations in the West Bank at the Birzeit University, near the village of Furiq and around Camp Ofer.

The protesters hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at the security forces who responded with crowd-dispersal means.

Meanwhile, Rashid Tamimi, 31, who was hit by IDF fire during a Saturday protest against the IDF operation in Nabi Salah, has died of his wounds.

Tamimi suffered abdomen wounds and succumbed to his wounds on Monday. A Youtube video shows him being taken away from the scene of the protest.

2. Totally unrelated but

have you ever thought that the supportes of illegal settlements on the west bank exhibit republican or right wing tendencies?

How great is the difference in the mindset between trying to steal elections, stealing pension funds, cheating people out of a fair wage, taking away a person's right to vote, rigging the vote through gerrymandering, treating LGBT's and others as second class citizens or as those who need treatment (pray away the gay), and the way Palestinians have been treated through theft of their lands, farms, livelihood, rights or future?

Are the people that I am debating, on the very human rights that the Palestinians deserve to be recognized, actually right wing trolls?

I'm not sure that a liberal/progressive message board could have an individual that could protest against the republicans tactics against Democratic values while at the same time promoting the same kind of actions that the right wing government in Israel has been keeping in place for years.

Your take?

3. You've found us out. Everyone who supports Israel is secretly a right wing troll.

And we would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for your crazy kids.

You realize that Hamas is guilty of just about every single one of those things on your list as well, right? Yet you'll find plenty of progressives that seem to love that fundamentalist fascist organisation. I recently saw a poster attempt to explain Hamas's public extrajudical murder of "Collaborators" of Israel as normal and not something to get worked up about. Yet just like every Israeli is not a hardcore right wing settler, every Palestinian isn't a member of Hamas. Jeez it is seems like it is almost silly to point to the most fringe crazed members of a society and then claim that their views represent the entirety of one camp of a geopolitical conflict.

It is therefore exceptionally silly to take that gross generalization and then extend it to everyone that takes a position on that geopolitical conflict.

I'm a progress myself. A gay one at that and I stand with Israel.

4. And try to change the subject back to Hamas: who no real progressive loves at all.

"...and I stand with Israel."

Did you stand in support of Israel when they stood in support of Romney?

5. Well, it is kinda funny that progressive apologists for Hamas....

...tend to call others right-wingers. It doesn't get more grossly rightwing & fascist than Hamas.

You're confusing support of Likud with support of a liberal/democratic Israel.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1134&pid=22463

Liberal/democratic Israel?

If it was really liberal it wouldn't create Swiss cheese out of the West Bank.

I await your sluice of excuses to rush forth.

7. More liberal than America, actually...

Gay rights, death penalty, healthcare, more socialist, much more self critical media, far more liberal court system, significantly better on environmental issues, leaders in stem cell research, better on immigration (for example from Ethiopia, Sudan), state subsidized public college tuition, better labor unions.

Israel had its first Arab President back in 2007 named Majali Wahabi, lead speaker of the knesset.

Israel had a female PM back in the 70's named Golda Meir.

The Knesset currently has an Islamist party within it (Raam Taal). Imagine the USA with reps in Congress from al-Qaeda bashing US policy on a daily basis.

In combat, Israel's civilian to militant kill ratio is significantly better than the US ratio the past decade and unlike America, Israel doesn't fight wars thousands of miles from its mainland.

9. You were proven wrong. And I ignore propaganda...

Fact is, Israel has offered twice since 2000 to end the occupation and settlements for a 2 state solution including half of Jerusalem. What's funny is that apologists like yourself who claim to be against occupation/settlements would have rejected both offers and explain away Palestinian intransigence in both cases. So it turns out YOU guys are for it, just like the PA and Hamas. The Palestinians should have had their own state free of occupation/settlements 12 yrs ago. Guess you think saying 'no' was worth it.

About as bad as apologists for Hamas calling others right-wingers.

10. This is a UN map, and you call that Propaganda?

Fact is,

1) Israel's Palestinian policies are politically bankrupt at best.

2) azurnoir already schooled you on the so called deal that Israel was going to scam the Palestinians on; which apparently has fallen on your deaf ears.

3) If Israel keeps this path of apartheid going then they will only have themselves to blame when it really gets bad for them.

Dig in your heels in baby and shake your fist at the world. Only your viewpoint is right. It's all a conspiracy against you.

On edit: You have a lot more in common with Hamas than you will ever acknowledge. Good luck with that.

On further edit here is a more recent map. Same shit.

16. Yes, Shira regards the UN an antisemitic organization

Along with the International Red Cross, B'Tselem, Amnesty International, B'nai B'rith, Yesh Gvul, Human Rights Watch, Defense of Children International, and - surprisingly, the Israeli Defense Forces.

At least that's what she told me when we discussed the United Nations Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict, some time back. Everyone who contributed? Raving antisemites. Everyone who corroborated (including the IDF's own report)? Raving antisemites.

Some people, I guess

15. omg where to begin with the BS you present

Gay rights, death penalty, healthcare, more socialist, much more self critical media, far more liberal court system, significantly better on environmental issues, leaders in stem cell research, better on immigration (for example from Ethiopia, Sudan), state subsidized public college tuition, better labor unions.

Gay Rights Gays can not legally marry in Israel they must go elsewhere as do inter-religious couples, the media in Israel is little different from the US, stem cell research goes on in the US also and in fact some cancer patients are sent here from Israel for treatment, any superior environmental research is due to the need to survival needs and immigration oh I am so glad you brought that one up here is a series from +972 about the fate of Somalis, Sudanese and Ethiopians meet in Israel that include special prison camps where they are detained for indefinite periods Israel allows Jewish immigration but if you are not Jewish and a poor Black African refugee your fate is likely indefinite imprisonment or worse

http://972mag.com/special/aslyum-seekers-2/

state subsidized collage hmmm I wonder if the US subsidizing fully 25% of Israels military budget helps that along?

Israel had its first Arab President back in 2007 named Majali Wahabi, lead speaker of the knesset.

Mr Wahabi filled in for a couple of days when Katsav unexpectedly stepped down due to rape charges and everyone else was on vacation at the time

Israel had a female PM back in the 70's named Golda Meir.

so did Pakistan her name was Benazir Bhutto
so did India her name was Indira Ghandi

The Knesset currently has an Islamist party within it (Raam Taal). Imagine the USA with reps in Congress from al-Qaeda bashing US policy on a daily basis

imagine US Congress member comparing other US government officials to terrorists oh wait we do we call them Republicans but I do find it informative that you compare Arab citizens of Israel to terrorists

11. Voted for Obama who supports Israel.

Or do you think Obama is a right wing troll too?

Shocking truth is people can hold different opinions than you without it being a vast rightwing conspiracy to troll democratic underground.
