Abbas proposes canceling Oslo Accords

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas reportedly has proposed canceling the Oslo Accords with Israel.

Abbas made the proposal at the beginning of the week at a meeting of Palestinian leadership, the Frency news agency AFP reported, citing a senior member of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

A decision on the issue was postponed until after Abbas returns from the United Nations General Assembly at the end of the month, AFP reported. It is reportedly the first time the issue of abrogating the treaty has come up since it was signed in 1993, according to the news service.

Yossi Beillin also proposed cancelling the Accords a few weeks ago (on the basis that they were never intended to last this long)

The entire structure of the Palestinian government that is currently functioning in the West Bank is thanks to the agreements made in Oslo.

and the 'evacuation' of Palestinians living in area C, the part of Oslo that seems dead is the part that says Oslo was supposed to be temporary, yes indeed Oslo is the gift that keeps on giving -to the Israelis anyway

Those parts of Oslo that continue to function are precisely those parts of Oslo that the Israeli government wants to function, and no others.

Palestinian National Initiative leader Mustafa Barghouti said the accords turned out to be "a transition to nothing," and had been used as a cover by Israel "to consolidate a system of apartheid."

"We as Palestinians need to liberate ourselves from the terrible conditions of the agreement," through popular resistance, national unity and boycott, divestment and sanctions, Barghouti told Ma'an.

10. Why don't you say what YOU think instead of mis-representing what everybody else thinks?

Not only would it be easier for you and more direct, but people would be more willing to converse knowing their thoughts would not be exaggerated and mis-represented.
