Actor Michael Douglas called the boycott Israel campaign an anti-peace movement during a conversation with Israeli President Shimon Peres and Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky on Tuesday.
The boycott is an anti-peace movement. The only solution that would guarantee stability for [Israelis and Palestinians] is the two-state solution, Douglas told an audience of hundreds of young Jewish activists at the Peres Center for Peace in Tel Aviv-Jaffa.
I respect the fact that I am not Israeli, but I am very concerned about the attempts of boycotting Israel and I am not comfortable with the response at the moment, he said.
He said, I hope Knesset parties will overcome internal differences and work together on measures to counter the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, more commonly known today as BDS.

(12,606 posts)He respects the fact that he is not an Israeli, but I'd bet he wouldn't want to be a Palestinian, living under Israeli apartheid, ever.
Good luck on Israel suing the world. That's what BDS is now: a world movement.

(6,171 posts)I will still watch his movies, as his opinions aren't part of his acting performance. As usual when people are against BDS, there is no mention of the settlements. Perhaps Mr Douglas doesn't know they exist?

Meaning it's anti-peace as well. And a fascist movement to boot.
Who else would want Jews imperiled once again w/o a Jewish state - with nowhere to go - nowhere where they can control their own destiny - not even within their own historic homeland....besides fascists Jew haters?

(30,109 posts)In no way can it be argued he's a pro-Israel rightwing propagandist shill, and yet he confirms what Michael Douglas believes about BDS.
If you don't believe what Finkelstein says in the video, pay more attentions to the conversations here. He's 100% spot-on.

(30,109 posts)See 3:20 into this video and you'll see Finkelstein supports BDS but only when the intent is 2-states.
BDS'ers against the Jewish state think they're being clever, but when they step out of their cult & have to start defending their position, they cannot support their position.
We all know that.
It's obvious.

(6,171 posts)Second hand opinions don't persuade me at all. If there's proof that BDS is anti-Semitic, then it should be possible to show it. I have asked before (I think) if you could show any proof whatsoever that the companies and governments that do BDS are anti-Semitic in any way. All you come up with is second hand opinions and info about the "BDS-movement" who actually have nothing to do with the actual act of doing BDS.
As for now, your claim that BDS is anti-Semitic seems to be delusional.

(6,171 posts)There are many opinions about which measures will lead to peace or not, and it's not obvious who's right.
I would lean (strongly) towards that those companies and governments that BDS from the occupation and the settlements are promoting peace. I don't know about the BDS movement though, as they are using a form of rhetoric that I can't really agree with.
