Help the bees. Stop buying your plants at Home Depot

The world bee population is in trouble. Colony Collapse Disorder is literally destroying bee populations all over the world and a group of pesticides called "neonicotinoids" seem to be one of the main culprits. I just got back from my local Home Depot store in San Diego, California and was shocked to see most of the flowering plants with a label that the plants contain "neonicotinoids" which treats the plant systemically. It doesn't wash off in the rain, you don't need to add pesticides. Its built into the plant itself. And its just not bees that are harmed, butterflies and hummingbirds are also consuming these neonicotinoids.

I just read that Lowe's is banning all neonicotinoids from their stores. Yeah for them.

That may be vastly more effective than trying a boycott, especially if you mention the whole Lowes angle. A bit of reference to supporting documentation might help too.

Then my DIL discovered this was going on with ornamentals. I haven't planted anything that isn't from seeds since then.

There is power in numbers, folks. I honestly have bought plants from them and told them I will no longer buy from them as long as they use this toxic mess.
