OPINION: Widespread ignorance of science is allowing extremists to hijack political discussions that get more necessary with each increase in atmospheric greenhouse gasses.

But what if the science interferes with the right of the 1% to get as rich as possible? What good is all that oil and other energy resources in the ground?
Some studies have shown that approximately 40% of Americans are functionally illiterate. How do these people get educated on issues, any issues, that do not lend themselves to easy 30 second news bites on the television?
