Obama to lay out climate change plan in speech on Tuesday

By Steve Holland
WASHINGTON | Sat Jun 22, 2013 5:55pm EDT
(Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Saturday that he will outline a climate change plan on Tuesday centered around reducing pollution from carbon emissions as he attempts to make good on a pledge for his second term.

"This Tuesday, I'll lay out my vision for where I believe we need to go - a national plan to reduce carbon pollution, prepare our country for the impacts of climate change and lead global efforts to fight it," he said in a White House video.

Obama made tackling climate change a top priority in his inaugural address in January when he began his second term. His speech will be at Georgetown University, the day before he goes on a three-nation tour of Africa.

In his video message, Obama outlined what would be a major national effort to address climate change. He said scientists will be needed to design new fuels, farmers to grow them, engineers to devise new sources of energy and workers to build the foundation for a clean energy economy.

1. All he's going to do is call for Carbon Tax

which will do nothing for the climate, but will empty people's pockets around the world, while the coal and oil continues to burn.

Thank you Mr. President, but we have ALL the new fuels, sources of energy and technology we need.

We just need to get the Carbon Pushers and the Banksters to stop buying elections.

2. If he's concerned about carbon polution

how much do you think this lot are going chuck out ?

Hundreds of U.S. Secret Service agents will be dispatched to secure facilities in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. A Navy aircraft carrier or amphibious ship, with a fully staffed medical trauma center, will be stationed offshore in case of an emergency.

Military cargo planes will airlift in 56 support vehicles, including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with sheets of bulletproof glass to cover the windows of the hotels where the first family will stay. Fighter jets will fly in shifts, giving 24-hour coverage over the president’s airspace, so they can intervene quickly if an errant plane gets too close.

If you search around you'll also find the anticipated cost to US taxpayers to actually be c. £100 million.

3. Maybe he should concentrate on FINISHING something, for a change

How's that gun bill coming?

This is a guy who has enormous power and has steadfastly refused to play any of the cards that are in his hand. So far, he has kept his supporters in line by occasionally giving a great speech here and there.

I'm sick of it. I am sick of bending over backwards to every little GOP demand. Actually they never make little demands. They make huge demands, like doubling the size of border control, even though:

a) border control is already bigger than the entire FBI by a wide margin

b) It is totally ineffective. You can climb over that fence in under 20 seconds.

c) it addresses the wrong problem. Most undocumented people got here by coming on a legal visa, and then simply over-stayed the visa.

Why does this guy cave in to these absurd and financially reckless demands? Instead he should be daring the GOP to not pass HIS bill. "Go ahead and stop that bill. If you do, I will be out on the streets every day making it clear to every Latino in America, that they have to give me a Democratic Congress in 2014, and then we'll pass a fair law for them. Go ahead. make my day."

This guy has become a total pushover.

4. When he was in the Illinois lege

he sat in a weekly poker game, according to the Sun-Times. He had a rep as a very conservative player who knew the odds, but not the game. You can lose a lot of money playing that way. You get nickle and dimed on every hand, and when you do catch, everyone else folds.

5. Interesting analogy

I'm not a poker player, but I assume what you mean by that is that if all the other players know he never takes any chances, then if he plays a hand aggressively, they could be certain he actually had the cards and wasn't bluffing. So they let him win that hand without bidding up the ante. Then go back to picking his pocket the rest of the night.

That sounds exactly the way the GOP has rolled this guy for 5 years.

7. Good analysis and analogy

The above is a good analysis and analogy.

The above analysis is EXACTLY the way you deal with a player that, in essence, telegraphs his holdings to the other players. If he plays aggressively only when he is holding good cards, and meekly when he is not holding good cards; then playing aggressively telegraphs to the other players that he has a good hand. The other players fold and don't bet any money. The good hand is wasted.

There's more to winning at poker than the mechanics of laying down and picking up cards as per the rules of the game.

Good players play at a "higher level" above the mechanics of the games. Good players are analyzing the behavior of their opponents to see what that behavior tells them about the cards the opposition is holding.

I would agree; Obama is pretty clueless about the game that is taking place at this "higher level"; and that's why he consistently fails to deliver for his supporters.

10. It is an atrocity to use topsoil and acquifer water to fuel cars.

There are too many hungry for food to be burned in an engine.

A 3500 pound car needs a good bit of fuel to drive 120-500 pounds of people around. What a waste.
