We've done something catastrophic to the arctic and it wants revenge by summoning late season hurricanes to the north.

I'm thinking something "record breaking" will be happening almost yearly from here on out, just in the US. For the entire globe, it's gonna get messy quick.

More common? Probably so, yes. Yearly? There's really a better chance of being killed by a tornado or being struck by lightning...and given the combined typical death tolls of both types of disasters and the number of people who live in all 50 states....well, you can do the math, I suppose.
