SCHUYLER, Neb. — Authorities said a construction worker died Saturday in northeast Nebraska while trying to free a cement truck.

The Colfax County Attorney’s Office said Craig Anderson, 26, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Saturday about 8 a.m.

A cement truck got stuck near Lake Socorro, west of Highway 15. Anderson was driving a payloader and attempting to pull the truck out with a chain. Authorities said the chain snapped and struck Anderson. He died at the scene.

A funeral is planned for Wednesday at Bible Baptist Church in Columbus. Anderson is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and three sons.

a young man is a little quick to help out? I feel for his family and the young man, this shouldn't have happened. A concrete truck stuck in mud, sand, or what ever is extremely heavy whether the truck was full or not, but 9 yds. of concrete is a lot of weight. In my 30+ years in construction I've seen a lot of cables, chains, and nylon slings snap. On horizontal pulls I've seen what looks like Con-Trails left behind when a wire rope snaps and leaves its morning dew in the air.
You go to work with the attitude of giving them a fair days work for a fair days pay and never go home.. Sad.

I've brought this up before and it deals with osha and statistics, but I'm pretty sure this young man was not a union operating engineer, if he was this may not have happened..
