Hearing set for union complaint against grocery chain

A hearing is set for April 17 before the National Labor Relations Board to hear allegations by a union that a San Luis, Ariz.-based grocery store chain blocked efforts to organize its employees.

United Food and Commercial Workers (UCFW) is seeking to unionize employees of Factor Sales, owner of the Del Sol and King Market grocery stores around Yuma County.

Employees were scheduled to vote Dec. 16 and 17 whether to unionize, but the election was put on hold by the NLRB pending an investigation over allegations of unfair labor practices that the union made against Factor Sales.

The NLRB is a federal agency charged with conducting elections for labor union representation and with investigating and remedying unfair labor practices.
