We need to make laws to prevent sore loser companies from laying off people
The ingrates are taking their ball and going home. The 1%'er republican company owners are laying off thousands of progressives because Obama won the election.
Here is one example: Utah company blames Pres. Obama for 102 workers laid off Obama should put out an executive order banning such layoffs until the next Congress when they can structure laws to ensure the workers are all compensated with at least a year salary or kept on staff.

1. I don't think he can do that legally
|
What he could do though is work with the renewable energy companies and retrain those who were laid off and want the training to get jobs in renewable energy. Give a big middle finger to the coal industry.

14. true capitalism works but....
|
don't support them. I don't know if you know this, but America is in a bind. People are using credit cards to buy food, and pay utilities, people are still losing their homes. You don't want these hard working American people to buy cheap products made from china? Yeah Walmart is where we shop. Slave labor in china keeps cost of products we buy low. How long do you think this will last? Oh true capitalism never existed in the USA. Ever. We have our own version of socialism. I agree that it may work, but not when we are taxed to death to supply welfare not only for the poor, but more so for the rich. Look this up its true, the rich get so much more for hurting the people, but ain't that America.

13. ALL layoffs are republican layoffs!
|
Don't get semantic here. All layoffs are due to republian economic policies, specifically Reaganomics and the GW Bush tax cuts. Most businesses who are pro-Obama actually will benefit, because they already had all their Obamacare ducks in a row, and I dispute your prognosis that businesses that were pro-Obama layed off their workforce with the same veracity as the republican ingrates.

7. I was thinking the same thing. How about coming up with an Executive Order as well?
|
Talking is cheap, and Obama MUST come up with something so we can start moving forward. He needs to come up with an order that restricts companies from laying off people. If necessary, we need to ensure that the company management come up with rules to ensure that the employees do not get hosed. We can actually appropriate company assets and copyrights to broker the payments until we can get them retrained for green jobs.
That is only part of it, we should be looking into creating a Secretary of Business to enforce these directives and to enhancing them, ensuring that new development is appropriated by the government and utilized for Green energy production, with profits going to the workers, not the owners or stockholders. |

take them over for unfair labor practices, turn them into cooperatives, and let them take back the economy.

6. Actually ...
|
their beloved free-market will deal with these idiots ... While it sucks in the short-term for those laid-off, how do these ideological "businessmen" plan to service the demand for their product or service? And the problem grows ... when a company has to turn down a job because they can't service the project (especially when the reason they can't was a publicized non-business related; but rather, an ideological reason), the market will tend to over-look them for the next project ... it costs time and money to let out projects.

11. Not only that, but every layoff costs them trained and experienced workers
|
and replacing even 10% of those workers runs into many thousands of dollars in training them and getting them up to speed in company procedures.
It's been proven over time that companies that didn't lay off workers in tough times did better over the long term than companies that did. These jerks are cutting their own throats, in other words, out of pure spite. In addition, if it can be proven that Democrats were targeted for layoffs at any of these companies, there can and should be a nasty lawsuit. |

He killed them in one of his unsafe mines. Now Obama will keep some safety regulations in place to protect them from his greed.

If the idea were even legally feasible, which I don't believe it is, how many times would it have to be revised for new scenarios?
