Venezuela Acquires New Technologies to Fight against Drugs

Caracas, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan authorities will acquire 12 aircraft in order to strengthen their fighting against the traffic of illicit substances in the country, reported the National Anti-Drug Office.

According to the agency, the Minister of Interior and Justice, Nestor Reverol, said the Tucanos will join the Bolivarian Military Aviation to detect illegal flights into Venezuelan airspace.

For the purchase of the aircrafts the government allocated 27 million bolivars ($ 6.3 million dollars) financed by the National Anti-Drug Fund.

With this step, he said, we progress in the consolidation of an independent and sovereign national anti-drug system to continue to evidence "the commitment we have in the national and international fight against illicit trafficking."

1. Cuba drug policies typical of what one would expect from the right wing

Venezuela, Ecuador, and Cuba seem to have the most oppressive laws in the region. Not very progressive stances from these "leftist" governments but progressive isn't synonymous with leftist of course.
