Cuban exile flotilla launches colorful fireworks show off Havana, but no discernible protest
By Associated Press, Published: August 11
HAVANA Red, white and gold balls of light shimmered low on the horizon off Havanas seafront Malecon boulevard Saturday night in a maritime fireworks display launched by Cuban exiles hoping to inspire protest.
The fireworks were clearly visible from the coast and lasted about an hour. People who saw it said they were mystified by its origin.
Its curious, because you dont see that often on the Malecon, said Jose Antonio Camejo, who was fishing for red snapper from the seawall along with family members.
Told it was organized by Cuban exiles from Florida, he shrugged and said, They must be celebrating something.

Miami Cuban "exiles" practicing Ramon Saul Sanchez's tactic,
the "exile" "human chain" to be prepared for when the U.S.
Federal agents would come to retrieve Elian Gonzalez from
his drunken great-uncle, "exile" Lazaro Gonzalez, who was
keeping Elian Gonzalez in defiance of Federal Court orders
demanding he release the child to agents to be returned to
his legal father, to be returned to his own home in Cuba.
Ramon Saul Sanchez, claiming the U.S. federal agents got the jump
on him, and scuffed him up while he attempted to prevent their
following out official orders to return the child to his father. He
believed he was done in by the tear gas, according to reports.

The anger in Miami really grabbed headlines when Ramon Saul Sanchez, the leader of the Democracy Now pressure group, started a hunger strike to demand a response from the federal government.
As television bulletins carried interviews with Mr Sanchez from his roadside bed in the Little Havana district, Governor Bush made calls to the White House, which is run by his brother.
Under pressure on several fronts, the White House agreed to receive a Cuban-American delegation and Governor Bush was able to announce the news on a visit to Miami.
"God has heard our prayers," Mr Sanchez said, as he consumed his first food for more than 10 days. "The doors have been opening in Washington for the government to listen to our concerns about US migration policy."
