Disfigured dog arrives in Ottawa for surgery

A wounded jungle dog from Nicaragua flew to Canada Wednesday night where he will be awaiting surgery by a generous Ottawa veterinarian.

Tyson, age unknown, is a beagal-mix whose snout was partially chopped off with a machete by a farmer in Nicaragua almost a year ago.

Since then, Tyson has managed to survive with the disfiguring wound.

He is likely suffering from several maladies, such as heart worm, which will have to be treated before surgery can take place, according the Ottawa-based veterinarian who is planning on operating on him.

Dr. Graham Thatcher and his wife Andrea White have made it their mission to help the dog free of charge since they learned about his case from a woman who was volunteering at Paso Pacifico, a conservation NGO in Nicaragua.

(Hoping this innocent dog can find healing with his new guardians.)
