A new Google search is going on in Cuba.
13 Friday Mar 2015
HAVANA High executives and engineers of the U.S. Internet giant Google Inc. are in Havana and nearby cities.
Although apparently theyve tried to keep a low profile, news of the presence of Scott Carpenter, director of Free Expression/Google Ideas; Brett Perlmutter, an executive of that division, and other company experts sampling the Cuban reality has spread here like wildfire.
On that visit, a photograph made near the Almendares River revealed that the American executives toured state-run companies devoted to computer use, such as CITMATEL, which provides Internet service to the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment.
The headquarters of CITMATEL, the company that assigns .cu (Cuba) domains, has a penthouse with a spectacular view, which Schmidt took advantage of to take a selfie that he later shared in his Google Plus profile.

(2,035 posts)Obviously Cuba is moving towards capitalism and slowly being integrated into the global economic market. Don't see how this exactly conforms with the socialist ideals of Castro. The Che would probably be totally against all this.

(17,751 posts)Quite amusing.
While you're waiting, care to explain to us what "the socialist ideals of Castro" are?
Thanks.

(2,035 posts)Isn't that what Castro did after he carried out the revolution back in the 50s? Certainly it's more capitalistic than socialist if you ask me.

(17,751 posts)... for you to be making presumptions, as you tend to.
Here's a bit of info to get you started on your serious research ...

(2,035 posts)And now Raúl is basically slowly allowing US businesses to do the same level of activity in Cuba on pre-nationalization levels again. Do you honestly believe he's gonna allow them to operate in their country again as if they were nationalized entities? Give me a break.
The Cuban government realized when Huguito passed away that their sugar-daddy of Venezuela wasn't gonna be able to maintain their economy any time soon, especially under the inept leadership of Maduro, who is now running the most corrupt, most incompetent, and most repressive regime in Venezuela's history, moreso than Marcos Perez Jimenez's dictatorship. Didn't you hear that negotiations between the US and Cuba started almost right after glorious supreme commander Chávez died? They obviously were aware they were gonna need a new source of income, and what better source of revenue than US businesses and tourism, especially when it's the closest developed nation to them geographically?
Sorry, but this whole narrative just screams hypocrisy from you and anyone who calls themselves socialists.

Truly odd. Imperial! Little Poster Fauntleroy.

(2,035 posts)Every time I bring something up that I'd like for you guys to answer, you just do the same "LOL! Just look it up yourself and you'll have the answer" and then resort to try to make it personal. That's really not the point of a discussion forum, and frankly, it's kinda gotten pathetic. Every day I see more and more Chavistas in this site getting their posts being hidden by jury decision because you're becoming more aggressive in trying to degrade anyone who disagrees with your pro-Chavista viewpoints on a personal level. All this does is show your desperation and the fact that you're being left without arguments that actually make any sense. I'll be counting the days now when Cuba finally opens up completely to the US and finish becoming the capitalist society they're turning into now.
