Rafael Correa will travel to China next week, becoming the first Ecuadorian president to make a state visit to the Asian nation, Ecuador's foreign ministry said Friday.
Correa will meet with China's President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang to discuss a strengthening of trade and political relations between the two countries, acting Foreign Minister Leonardo Arizaga said.
The Ecuadorian leader is to spend the initial part of the visit in Beijing before traveling to Shanghai, China's business and financial hub.
Correa's agenda includes "issues that are related to the manufacturing, mining, telecommunications sectors, and there will be a review of strategic products (in Ecuador) that are being carried out or financed by China," Arizaga said. The discussions will also cover potential new joint development projects, the foreign minister said.
