Celebrating the national day of the university student, thousands took the streets in Venezuela to show their support for the government's education policies.

Thousands of students marched in the streets of Venezuela’s capital Friday to mark the national day of the university student.
The students showed their support for the goverment's education policies. Education in Venezuela has been described by the Organization of Iberoamerican States (OEI) as among the best in the region.

The celebrations in Caracas came on the heels of an announcement made by the Venezuelan government Thursday that a commission will be set up to investigate crimes against students committed by the Venezuelan State from 1958 to 1998.
During that period, hundreds of students were tortured, disappeared or killed by the Venezuelan military and police, most of the crimes ending in impunity.

One of the most notorious cases was the killing of 50 students in the state of Aragua, a case which was unsolved and closed over time. Victims’ families will request the case be re-opened.
