Venezuela president skips UN debut citing death threats

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro cancelled his debut at the United Nations General Assembly Wednesday, saying his enemies were plotting to incite violence in New York or even kill him.

Just hours before he was scheduled to address the U.N., Maduro announced via Twitter that he had arrived back in Venezuela -- not New York -- after a six-day trip to China.

During a national broadcast late Wednesday, Maduro said he was on a layover in Canada when he received information about two plots, one to incite violence and the other to kill him.

“That’s when I decided to head straight to Caracas,” he said, “to preserve my physical integrity, my life and the honor of Venezuela.”

2. Who's threatening him? Hugo's old Army buddies?

Maybe they're pissed that his corrupt Guardsmen are smuggling coke to France?

Or the opposition leadership, who are pissed that he may have sold the country--and her gold reserves-- to China?

Also on Maduro’s plate is a growing drug-trafficking scandal. On Wednesday authorities said they had made fresh arrests related to an Air France flight earlier this month from Caracas to Paris that was found carrying 1.3 tons of cocaine – a record-breaking seizure for French authorities. Among the 17 people being investigated are eight members of Venezuela’s Bolivarian National Guard – a potential embarrassment to an administration that has taken up anti-corruption as its flagship cause.

But Maduro has said his trip to China was an economic success. The governments signed 12 agreements, including the establishment of a Venezuelan-Chinese enterprise to develop the Junin oil block in the Orinoco Oil Belt, an agreement to develop a mining map of the country, and a feasibility study and engineering agreement to develop the Las Cristinas gold mine.

Maduro also bagged a $5 billion loan. However, the government has not said whether they are fresh funds, a line of credit, or the renewal of previously extended loans. The administration has also been mum on what kind of guarantees it has provided for the money, but Maduro has promised to give a full accounting of the trip.

In the past, the country has backed Chinese loans with future oil sales. But on Tuesday, Henrique Capriles, the Governor of Miranda state and the opposition standard-bearer, speculated that the country was turning over its gold reserves for the money.

“What condition will they leave this country in if they sell off our gold reserves,” he said. “Do you think those $5 billion are going to solve our economic problems? Of course not.”

They serve the Chavista government, for crying out loud! There's no WAY Chávez (now Maduro's responsibility) would make the mistake of having such corrupt figures to serve in the Venezuelan armed forces!

so he's down at the pawnshop, selling the TV and the x-box and that pinky ring, in order to make the bills so he doesn't get evicted. He's like a squirrel on a wheel, running as fast as he can.

He's bought himself a little time, but not much. And I think China will kinda be "loan sharkish" if he tries to weasel out on, or stretch out, their deal. They're gonna get their stuff, no mistake!

Of course, it's not true, he knew he'd be overshadowed by US-Iran conciliatory speeches (or at least was likely advised as such). So he went home, like the bigoted child that he is.

yesterday officials were saying they were having difficulties with getting fly over permission to the US since he flies on a Cuban government airliner. Chavez had two presidential planes including a new one built for him. What happened to that plane?

I don't know if the flyover issue is real either. This government lies about everything.

The flyover request wasn't in the 3 day window. That was a joke. Since it coincided with the French cocaine bust it's fairly obvious that it was a distraction.

anyway, on the presidential plane. Maduro says he is suing Airbus because it was sent to France for repairs but there were problems with a wing when it returned. http://www.eluniversal.com/nacional-y-politica/130926/maduro-prepara-acciones-judiciales-contra-airbus

11. I think Maduro may be afraid of Chavez's black magic curse
Fri Sep 27, 2013, 05:53 AM
Sep 2013

I read in Runrunes.es that Chavez was doing black magic rites to attack the opposition. A few years ago I had traveled to Caracas and a friend joked Chavez had pulled Bolivar's bone out of the grave to perform rites. I kept hearing this over time, and I also read Maduro is really superstitious and thinks Chavez comes to see him in the shape of a bird. And he sleeps at night in Chavez' grave too. Apparently he feels better sleeping next to the casket. Anyway, the guy is plenty weird. I suspect this problem taking Chavez' airbus is more associated with superstition than anything else.

12. Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro seeking world attention
Thu Oct 3, 2013, 01:04 PM
Oct 2013

Nicolás Maduro is eager for world attention, but has run into unexpected threats of plots against him.

Maduro is thirsty of publicity and protagonism, perhaps to blurr his past as a bus driver in Caracas. He wastes no opportunity to have himself present for media coverage.

Maduro keeps making up stories of enemies hatching plans to assassinate him. evidently seeking media coverage to enhance hs presence. He is a child of a poor family, and is evidently uncomfortable with his status, hence his forced presence in the media.

13. I heard it was his Cuban owned presidential plane which caused the trip suspension
Fri Oct 4, 2013, 04:54 AM

The usa state department explained to the Venezuelans setting up the trip that Maduro's presidential plane, being Cuban owned, would likely be impounded by NY Courts if the plane came in and landed and stayed long enough. There are quite a few people trying to recovery unpaid bills from the Cubans. For some reason Maduro only flies in a Cuban owned plane. I think he's more of a Cuban puppet, but I really suspect he's afraid of using Chavez's airbus because he thinks it's haunted.

15. Maduro is a former Caracas bus driver with no schooling, but great aspiration of becoming "somebody"

Nicolás Maduro tries to sell himself as a politician, but lacks every attribute needed for the post.
Hugo Chávez sold him as his only candidate to replace himself. But the truth is Nicolás Maduro has absolutely no qualifications for an office in a government. Nevertheless, he is President of Venezuela, courtesy of Hugo Chávez.

How he acts shows the limits of his IQ. It also shows the rough personality he attempts to adopt in public, which is his natural attempt to look strong and ready for the fight. Unfortunately not much of value comes out of his soul.
