The presumptive GOP nominees slow start in Ohio could undermine his chances of winning the White House
PLAIN TOWNSHIP, OhioThough Donald Trump dispensed with his last primary opponent months before Hillary Clinton will, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee trails far behind the leading Democrat in organizing in key general-election states.
...
Meanwhile, Clinton aides are preparing to open the first campaign office in Columbus and have begun coordinating with the Ohio Democratic Party to recruit an army of volunteers made up of people who backed both Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Sanders in the states primary.
...
Mrs. Clintons team here is led by Chris Wyant, a veteran of Mr. Obamas two Ohio campaigns. Last week, Mr. Wyant and another Clinton aide watched as a team of 30 local Democratic Party activists made calls to recruit general election volunteers.
The first sentence of the scripted recruiting pitch asked recipients to show how unified Democrats are against Donald Trump.
About half of the activists interviewed at the Stark County Democratic headquarters said they backed Mr. Sanders during Ohios primary, but each said they believe they must work to elect Mrs. Clinton.
The difference between any Democrat and Trump is so spectacular that I had to come help, said Tony Collins-Sibley, a 54-year-old cabinet maker from Alliance who wore a blue Bernie 2016 T-shirt as he phoned potential Clinton volunteers. Hillary is a boilerplate Democrat with all the traditional views. Ill work for her.

The Bernie Bro's, and they are not the majority of Bernie supporters, just the most vocal and divisive (some are probably paid trolls or Rand Paul followers) will never vote for Hillary. And you know what, we don't need them.

(3,284 posts)Thanks for posting it. There's a huge difference between rational Sanders supporters and the ABC (Anyone But Clinton) kind. I'm going to make an effort not to paint everyone with the same broad brush, because I've been guilty of that in the past. It's not helpful to anyone not to mention, that's exactly what the Right-Wing Trump trolls want. It's time to unify the party, not divide it.

(32,623 posts)it isn't an easy transition. It takes maturity, selflessness, real commitment to Democratic principles and a candidate who's leadership is firm and respected.
The farther we get into the process this time, the more respect I have for her and her 08 supporters.

(12,448 posts)Sometimes I forget that DU is not the country. There are many, possibly a majority, of Bernie supporters who still love their country. One poll said that 85% of Sanders supporters will vote for Hillary if she's the nominee, so all the threats of "you'd better beg us for our vote or else!" that we see on DU are complete bullshit. They'll never vote for Hillary Clinton no matter how much they're begged to; and they're not needed.

(213 posts)Some of my friends/relatives who are Bernie supporters are reasonable. (Except for one) They want a Democrat and it's not just to vote against Trump -- although it horrifies them to think he could be president -- it is because they believe in Democratic values. They will vote for Hillary and some of them will work for Hillary.
They are better than I am. After all the animosity directed at Hillary from Bernie himself, I can honestly say I don't know if I would work for him if he were the nominee. Vote for him, yes. But walk and call and contribute? Hmmmm. Not so sure.
Does that make me a bad Democrat?

(1,446 posts)In the 'real world' the vast majority of former Sanders supporters are reasonable people who are willing to back Hillary in the general election. Once she is the nominee, we will hopefully see the negative attacks from our own side dwindling.
