House GOP members unveil unemployment benefit extension bill

The bill is expected to be opposed by President Barack Obama and Democrats because the bill includes language allowing construction of a controversial oil pipeline from Canada to Texas. Senate leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, has also said the Senate would block the legislation from moving forward.

The GOP leadership plan would "leave millions of Americans out in the cold, and would destabilize our economy just as it's starting to turn the corner," said Rep. Joe Baca, D-San Bernardino.

Republicans have dismissed the White House's preference to finance the bill by boosting taxes on millionaires.

Instead, Republicans want to pay for their bill - more than $180 billion - by extracting money from federal workers, boosting federal fees and requiring higher-earning seniors to pay more for Medicare.
