It may look like a dirty yellow rock - but this 'stone' could be a piece of whale sick worth 100,000.

When Ken Wilman's dog Madge dug up the 'horrible' smelling object during a walk on Morecambe beach, he dragged her away.

But when he got home, the intrigued Lancashire walker looked up the mysterious find online.

He was amazed to learn that the misshapen rock is probably a piece of rare and valuable sperm whale vomit nicknamed 'floating gold'.

Put away your metal detector and take your dog for a walk on the beach!

3. Sperm whale vomit???

Good lord. And....it is used in expensive perfumes? OMG.

If I find some whale vomit, how do I know it is sperm whale vomit? And where do I find the market for it? I have a feeling that I can't sell it on eBay.

Oh well, since I live inland, the chances are slim that I will ever be in the position to worry about all this.

4. If I remember correctly, only sperm whales make it.

As Ambergris is a substance secreted to surround hard objects in the whale's stomach such as the beaks of squids.

13. Not the only icky stuff in expensive perfume.

Musk, the glandular secretions from deer is an ingredient of some of the more exotic fragrances.

her camouflage bandana we'd lost on a walk a few months ago. I was pretty thrilled with that!

7. Dogs like to roll in stinky stuff

They also eat shit and have other nasty habits. Dogs are OK, but I prefer Kittehs.

8. True dat.

No self-respecting feline would take a walk (On a leash!) anywhere near water that is obviously trying to leap over the sand and engulf him.

11. Absolutely....

and especially good for use in perfumes!

But I wonder about a lot of things that are used for something and you wonder who ever came up with that use. Like eating truffles---who was the first to try that!?! Or caviar? And how did they even find saffron and a use for it? I suppose that we are lucky that someone in the past figured this stuff out.

...since ambergris production depends on keeping them ALIVE.

16. Ambergris, nice.

I've always wondered how much it went for, and what it looked like.
Weird indeed.

17. I did not see that coming! Really, thanks for that, I learned something that surprised me!

We do beach walking several times a year, and I think I will never look at the things we find with the same eye.

Of course, I'll now probably bring home all sorts of real junk in hopes that it is treasure, lol.

20. On an episode of the TV series Batman,

Robin, as Dick Grayson, finds a chunk of ambergris on the beach at Ambergris Bay. That draws the attention of "Louie the Lilac", who wants to monopolize the lilac perfume market in Gotham City.
