Iowa City Man Accused of Stealing from Hotel, Returning for Breakfast
IOWA CITY, Iowa - A 49-year-old Iowa City man accused of stealing tools from a construction area at the Hampton Inn last month was arrested Tuesday after he returned to the hotel for free breakfast and coffee.
Hampton Inn employees told investigators that they had seen Dwaine Allen Toran at the 1200 First Ave. hotel in Coralville on several occasions, but he’s not been a guest or an employee there. At about 1:45 p.m. on Dec. 23, Toran was seen entering a construction area at the hotel and piling up tools and putting them in a bag, according to Coralville police.
He left the site with the tools, which weren’t his, witnesses told police.
At 7:13 a.m. Tuesday, officers were called to the Hampton Inn because Toran – who was not a guest at the hotel – was helping himself to coffee and breakfast items, according to the complaint.
