Makes me homesick when I'm not even from there. If I ever get a large printer to run off a big copy (for myself only, I think allowed by copyright law), I'll first send it through a paint program. It really sings New England, doesn't it?

From an old whaling town.

Some history, Irish.

Immigration to New Bedford[edit]

North Congregational Church, Purchase Street, 1906
Until 1800, New Bedford and its surrounding communities were, by and large, populated by Protestants of English, Scottish, and Welsh origin. During the first half of the 19th century, however, a large wave of Irish people came to Massachusetts.

In 1818, Irish immigrants established the Catholic mission that built St. Mary's Church. Later in that century, immigrants from Portugal and its dependent territories of the Azores, Cape Verde and Madeira began arriving in New Bedford and the surrounding area, largely because of the whaling industry. As the Portuguese community began to increase, they established the first Portuguese parish in the city, St. John the Baptist (1871). The French (chiefly French-Canadian) also secured a foothold in New Bedford at about the same time, and they built the Church of the Sacred Heart in 1877.

Obama photographer Pete Souza gets hitched in White House wedding...so who took the pictures?

The official Obama shutterbug has been chronicling the politician since 2005, but got his time in the shutter's eye for his wedding to Patti Lease in the White House Rose Garden.

Pete Souza, the director of the White House photo office, got married Saturday to Patti Lease.

"Obama's official photographer Pete Souza got a presumably picture perfect wedding at the White House Rose Garden Saturday night, hosted by the commander-in-chief.

White House Military Chaplain Stanley Fornea officiated the marriage celebration for Souza and his bride, Patti Lease.

Roughly 35 guests attended the ceremony for the man who has captured some of Obama's most poignant moments in office.

As of yet, no photos have emerged of the happy occasion."
