Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

Wed Jun 12, 2013, 09:29 PM

I'll tell you one ...

damned thing ...

I am so glad that President Obama, with his temperment, poise, demeanor, and intellect, is the President of this great nation.

I quake at the thought if any lesser of a man (or woman) were in that office.

I wonder how many people, honestly, believe they could do his job? (Not including the folks here at DU, who clearly would be better at the job)

2. I think you do a certain contingent

on DU a great disservice.

There are folks here who KNOW how to govern a nation. They KNOW who should be appointed to every position, they KNOW every issue that should take priority over others, they KNOW who the president should consult with and whose advice he should eschew, they KNOW what statements should be made and when, they KNOW what attitude should be adopted in every press conference and every speech.

Hell, they even KNOW the stuff they don't know.

It's rather a shame that these people have chosen to spend their valuable time posting on DU, instead of applying their immeasurable expertise to doing something productive in the real world - a place many of them have never experienced, but have only heard about in passing.

4. Thank you 1StrongBlackMan!

Our President has been able to make great strides, despite the the party of no's opposition.

I have never in my life seen a President so disrespected. He has been ridiculed and maligned. His family irrationally dishonored and smeared. Sadly this disrespect does not just emanate from the right.

Yet our President still holds his head high. As does his family.

I am proud to call this man, Mr President!

36. That's what he will always be to me, 'Mr. President'

Our paths are never going to cross directly at all, and I'll never enjoy the familiarity to address him as less. In fact, it bugs people here in RedNeckLand that I always refer to him as President Obama. They resent the respect I feel and show for him, knowing I have far less for them. I try to treat them as well as circumstance and temper allow, but they still know...

6. Obama is up against corporate forces that have massive power and momentum.

There is no way that the Obama who spoke during the elections is not the Obama in office. There is a stage that is set within which the president is placed. Any one of the surrounding players can be almost immovable. The Pentagon. I think mainly the Pentagon is one which must give Obama a lot of trouble. Well established life long, powerful players. And then Congress with the adversaries. McConnell didn't even hide it: We're going to make this a one term president. That was their oath. What Obama is up against must be monumental. If only he could speak the truth and tell us. You know he can't. There's a lot he simply cannot do. And it's sad. I often think a president Kucinich would have been great, and very short.

14. An example of possible pressures Obama faced upon election

With all the other sinister crap our government has done over the years, this scenario is soon becoming the only possible explanation.

For example, it has recently been revealed, and covered in detail by Thom Hartmann, that LBJ knew Nixon was negotiating with North Viet Nam to delay a peace agreement until after the election and Dickie would give them a better deal than LBJ. Thom played a tape of LBJ talking to Senator Dirkson; "Everett, this is TREASON!" "I know, I know."

It've a proven part of history. bonafide, no wild CT's. irrefutable proof of an American Presidents successful use of TREASON to win a Presidential Election!

And Dick also needlessly extended the war another 22,000 dead as a result of this. How could any person not simply drone themselves from the weight of murdering so many people?

the perpetrator eventually apologized - to others, not to me, that's for sure - so I'll keep a sharp eye out for such a suspicious gift horse. ie, I don't buy it. If he truly understood the import of his uncivilized behavior and regretted it, he would have made his apology to the person he most offended instead of hiding behind mommy's skirt. A mature MAN would face up fair and square.

It's stupid how they call us kool aid drinkers, they are projecting. It could be we just agree with him. And he has said the most sensible things on the subject, like this latest thing, he makes a lot more sense on the subject than Greenwald and the other ravers. They seem to not realize we find President Obama more convincing than we find them because he addressed the issue in terms of reality.

I like the man and i think he does a good job most of the time but should we not hold our elected leaders accountable when we don't agree with policy stances they take? isn't that the point of Democracy? speaking truth to power.

Did you like the patriot act when it was signed? if you didn't then you understand why we would like Obama to make a attempt at putting a stop to it,Cause if he doesn't then its not likely anyone will.

I am guessing you are not a fan of Tavis Smiley or Cornel West? I love them.

I don't see anyone saying they can do better i just see people practicing Democracy is that really such a bad thing?

39. It'll take more than just Obama attempting to stop the Patriot Act.

Congress is going to need a makeover, i.e. replace everyone who supports it with people who do not. The Patriot Act has been approved repeatedly in Congress (across party lines) since Bush ll was president. That is who has jurisdiction over changing the laws.

This discussion has to go forward, and I for one am glad President Obama is in office. As I said elsewhere, a Republican would likely have a dangerous meltdown, or go psychotic on us-- we have seen it.

Our job is to put great pressure on the administration and representatives in regards to the overreach of NSA. There has been and will be personal attacks all around and we have to work around them--as President Obama has done himself.

34. I have my personal quota of shortcomings

But one of them is NOT the hubris to think I could do his job. At least not in the same league! But I do read people fairly well, and I've trusted few as I do President Obama.

That isn't to say I couldn't do the job better than a Republican. Different scenario entirely. At least I'd have sense enough to liberalize everywhere possible. Hell, either of my dogs could outdo the best(?) in the GOP. At least Molly Maguire and Brigid wouldn't be greedy, hateful, lying SOBs.

Now, my chows Joy and Freedom would've made a great team of advisors if I were President. My solution to each and every problem would be to give them permission to bite every Republican who came near the WH.

Pretty good plan, don't you think? Works for me.
