When Danny Glover first arrived at Monday night’s meeting of the Bibb County Democratic Party, he had hoped to be assigned to one of the organization’s committees.

By the time the meeting was over, Glover, 24, was named the party’s new chairman, having run unopposed.

“I went to the meeting because I wanted to get involved with one of the committees,” Glover said. “But (during the meeting) I felt a higher calling. I campaigned for chairman because I felt I can do more.”

Glover, who lost to Tom Ellington in July for the Ward 3, Post 3 City Council race, takes over an organization that drew attention in 2011 for its infighting among party members regarding city and state public offices.

That's a heck of a name. Do you have young Democrats becoming more involved in your area?

about the Democratic Party and getting progressive measures passed at all levels of government to join their local Democratic Clubs.

If you don't take the time to join and support your local club, why are you on DU?

If you claim to be a Democrat, you need to get active.

I'm sorry to preach like this, but we have to take back the House this year.

It's very likely that your local Democratic Club will be registering voters, organizing a local campaign, contacting voters in person and by phone and getting out the vote in the days before the election. DU is great, but posting on DU does not win elections. The work that you as a member of your local Democratic Club can do will win the 2012 election.

If you don't join, who will? If you don't work to elect Democrats, who will?
