Trip down memory lane, using Windows XP Professional SP3 in VMware Workstation 9.0.2 build-1031769

I'm typing this on XP. Talk about slow ! Maybe it's the VMware that slows it down so much. I tried Win7 x64 with VMware and it seemed much faster.

Yea, this is for giggles, not trying to do any actual work. I'm using the trial version til it expires.

... all the way back to my original homebuilt which had a huge one kilobyte memory and an 1802 microprocessor.

I still enjoy my Atari 800 stuff.

I used Windows from 3.1 to 98SE. Yep, I've got those entire machines emulated too.

Switching to Debian was like coming home. My late 'seventies early 'eighties university Unix stuff, the vi files, the Bourne shell scripts, most all of it, "just worked" and when it didn't it was very easy to fix. All the familiar software was there too.

I will no longer touch Windows or Apple machines unless someone is paying me.

Not even 64-bit (not that it really matters). XP Home SP3, VMWare Fusion 5.0.3, MacBook Pro early-2011 (2ghz i7, 16GB); it's definitely faster than my aspireONE netbook, but that's not hard. Also quicker than 7 - haven't tried Vista or 8.
