a quick solution is often copying and pasting the text i want into word or whatever processor and printing that.

Printers all have their own language when being sent data. I wonder if it because prowsers don't clean up whatever imbedded nugget is in the original web page before sending it off to a printer. trying another browser can often help on the same web page.

the other issue is a printer doesn't always have the same fonts that are in the document and that will get misinterpreted if for whatever reason the browser in use doesnt properly compensate for that.

Most browsers have the ability to enable and disable printing of color, images and background. Also, style sheets (CSS) have media tags that are specific to Printing that can drastically change the page rendering for printers. Items on pages like iFrames (usually are where ads are loaded) will cause problems. Internet Explorer does support saving the page as a .mht (or mhtml) self-contained, multipart MIME file (similar to emails).. you may want to try saving and reopening from this structure.

Another option is to try to convert the page to PDF via an online service, such as: http://www.web2pdfconvert.com/
