GPS for car - any recommendations? I didn't know what forum to post this in - hope this is ok.
I want to get my very first GPS for my car and am not sure what to do. I looked up Bluetooth and cannot see why I would want it on my GPS.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

(12,592 posts)within that name - I don't know which is best - there is a big difference in price 199 vs 139 and I don't understand the difference.

(18,622 posts)Bluetooth...meh. Also, I bought mine for travel in Europe and it was just spot on. Most only have N America and Canada (Mexico?) I think I paid $139. http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-2555LMT-Portable-Navigator-Lifetime/dp/B005DIBHCE/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1370364250&sr=1-4&keywords=garmin+nuvi

(8,021 posts)Was looking at GPSs like Garmins and TomToms. For just a few more bucks I got:
- Nexus 7 Android Tablet ($249)
- CoPilot Live GPS App ($19)
I mainly use it as a "mini-iPad" and take it on trips for checking emails, etc., and it serves as a GPS to boot!
There are also a number of aftermarket cupholder-based holders, though I didn't get one of those:
If you're lucky enough to already have an Android smartphone, all you'd need is the CoPilot app, which is outstanding.

I already ordered a Garmin 2557 from Amazon. My screen is only 5" and cost a bundle. When it wears out, I will go the Android tablet route.
Many thanks for your suggestion!

(8,021 posts)1. It's faster to start up than the tablet & app.
2. It runs longer between chargings. Tablets are pigs on power.
3. Comes with better mounting hardware.
4. Display is likely better in bright light.
If you use the GPS a lot, then it's a good choice. I tend to use mine only for "trips", not around town.
