Urgently need advice. I think I just gave hackers my hotmail password.

My hotmail acct is what I use for all business correspondence and it's in my name. I went to open it and I got a window sayng that it appeared that someone was trying to access my acount so I had to request a code that would be sent to an alternative email acct. I never got that email so I went back and clicked on link that said "Can't access any of these options." Another window came up that asked for my name, BD, other email address, subject line of recent email, and current hotmail password. It also asked for CC info but I didn't enter that. Message than was it would take 24 hours to send security code.

As soon as I entered the info I regreted my decision as I realized that hotmail no reason to ask for CC info.

I am not computer savvy. Does this sound like hacking? Have I just given away my hotamil acct to hackers?

4. Thanks for the reply. I just tried that but am getting the same

message that a new password will take 24 hours. It does look like a legit window.

6. I have been having a similar problem but only when I use Mozilla.

I tried and tried to get back in using the Firefox link-nada. So I went to explorer and using that link, I discovered everything was fine. Total pain.

And of course, you can't get anyone to help. "Just follow the steps"-they're a joke.

7. Change your password!

Assuming you still have access to your account, you can protect it by changing your password.

8. Don't change, reset.

It shouldn't take 24 hours to change, every time I've had to change mine it's been instant. Then, migrate off Hotmail ASAP - mine gets cracked and sends spam to everybody on my contact list about once every 8 months; I only keep it as a throwaway address. I'm happy enough with GMail, but there are much more secure alternatives out there (Hushmail springs to mind, a web search for "secure web email" will turn up more).
