Temporary profile in Win 7 Home Premium
I usually hibernate my computer rather than shut it down. Today I did a
Windows Update. When the computer rebooted, it went to a temporary profile. The message told me to log off and log on later. I've done that several times to no avail. I can't access my files and any changes I make will be deleted when I log off. Anyone ever heard of this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

1. Try these.

You receive "The User Profile Service failed the logon” error message http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215 Temporary Profile http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/solved-temporary-profile-577130.html I didn't read the last one yet, but - Worse case you may have to make a new login and as administrator give your new login permission to use the old login files and data. Just copying it to your new login may not work. |

5. Win7 Temporary Profile Problem
|
FIRSTLY:- LEAVE THE REGISTRY AND USER ACCOUNTS ALONE!!! You are only making matters worse by messing with them.
HP are fully aware of the problem which is widespread. They do not have a clue how to put it right. It is being caused by failed updates. Have a look at your update log and you will see a string of failed updates with the same date as when the Temp' Profile kicked in.. Simply restore your computer to before these faulty updates and once you have done that download the updates manually. So far it has put right every computer that I have had in with the Temp' Profile business. HTH Dave |

3. This is a huge problem in Windows 7
|
At my work I write images for computer labs and the IT helpdesk. Sometimes when people log in, something goes wrong, or the profile is corrupted. The operating system compensates by creating a temporary profile.
Below are the steps Microsoft recommends to fix it. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows7/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile |

Saved for future reference, just in case. I just completed a system
recovery. Fixed the problem, but a HUGE pain in the ass to reinstall everything. Not a computer pro, in case you didn't notice. |
