Hotmail got taken over. Does anyone know by who? I need to find out if my sympatico account,

which got taken over by hotmail years ago, still will work. So far, the drop down list for which folders i file emails into is not working. I heard something on the news that said that hotmail accounts would still work but mine is a sympatico (bell canada) account. I don't want to loose all my emails.

1. Here's what's happening...

Not much about sympatico, but the whole mess revolves around Windows 8, which is designed for tablets and smartphones-- fewer and fewer people are doing email on their home or laptop computers.

My suggestion, if you're really worried about losing email, would be to install Thunderbird and set it up to download your emails into your computer. I'm assuming sympatico has POP3 access, and should have instructions how to do it. If you already have Outlook Express on your computer, you can use that.

Every time there is a major change with email providers there is a nasty lag time to get it right. I'm not sure why, but nobody has found an easy way to make large changes.
