Not much about sympatico, but the whole mess revolves around Windows 8, which is designed for tablets and smartphones-- fewer and fewer people are doing email on their home or laptop computers.
My suggestion, if you're really worried about losing email, would be to install Thunderbird and set it up to download your emails into your computer. I'm assuming sympatico has POP3 access, and should have instructions how to do it. If you already have Outlook Express on your computer, you can use that.
Every time there is a major change with email providers there is a nasty lag time to get it right. I'm not sure why, but nobody has found an easy way to make large changes.
