Just bought a new compter...taking hardware from old to new question

The new computer(win7) has everything we need except the tv tuner. Not a huge deal, I can live with it, or without it, but my old computer(vista) has one.
I think the answer is simple, but wanted to run it by here for any potential issues I might not be aware of.
Can I simpley pull the tuner from the old computer and slot it into the new one?
Should I do it before I even plug in the new computer, or wait until after I get it up and running?
Right now I am doing some back up stuff etc...so I won't be firing up the new one until sometime tomorrow.
Thanks in advance....

1. If it worked in Vista it will probably work in Windows 7. You may need to explicitly download ...

and install the driver on the new PC first.

Or can I slot it in, fire up the new computer and find the drivers as things update?

4. Sometimes it's easier if you locate download and install the driver first. You can just install

the card first and see if windows finds the driver itself. Even if it finds the driver itself though it's
often not the latest one available on the manufacter's website.

3. True what Politicadverse says...also I'd get all the "Crapware" out first, install the malware....

...protection and other security stuff.....get your settings the way you want...(screen, alerts etc)....use cccleaner...
and THEN install your hardware to your hearts content.

Was kind of hoping I could install the hardware, then do the rest...but I'll follow the advice given...a little extra work never hurt me anyway!

thank you!

6. The card isn't the issue - the DRIVER is. I keep old machines around just for hardware.

I've probably got 3-4 thousand floppies and at least 100 ZIP drives. While I do have USB floppy and USB ZIP drives, it's a lot easier to put them in a machine that already has them built in. Then there's MAME. Some of the games work best in Win95 and others in Win98SE. Don't throw out your old computer shit.

Make sure that the new stuff works. Give some time to let the new hardware 'break in'. The first 30 days for new PC parts is one of the high possablity of falilyor areas.
This will also give you time to become fimilar with 7.
If you know the manifacture of the tuner card, go out to their web page. It may be one stop shopping where you get the drivers, manua FAQs et all.
If the free book is out their it will tell yo whether to install the driver or the card first.
If you need a TV fix while settleing in the new hardware and you're self theirs allways HULU.com

Almost forgot. Make sure the drivers are for WIN 7. If you can't find drivers then put the card in and Windows may take care of things starting with.
Found New Hardware.
