I'm tearing my hair out over Windows updates

failing to install on my Dell laptop (Windows 8.1). I've been trying for a good week and just when I think it's actually worked, it gives me (again) the dreaded "We couldn't complete the updates. Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer." I've got a call in to a local tech repair guy, but it's Saturday afternoon, so I doubt he'll return my call before Monday, and I'd love to solve it myself. I've tried everything I know how to do (not as conversant as I'd like to be!) and I have a couple of other questions for him in any case. To be specific, it seems update #KB2919355 is the culprit, generating error code 800F0922. According to multiple web searches, it's giving many other users fits, as well. Any relatively easy solutions out there?

BTW - not loving W-8. I have 7 pro on my old workhorse desktop, and it's my preference. Once these 8 problems are resolved I might go to the classic W-7 shell.

But my advice would be to set Updates to manual instead of automatic.

Then go to win update which should be easy to get to from the start menu--wu is what I use in win7. Then just select each update individually. That usually eliminates the problem because they are all valid but something about the order of install is causing the problem.
