Update on flickering Dell Latitude 630 laptop screen.
This morning I talked with the one computer seller/repairman in the area, since I had bought my TP Link signal booster from him.
After I described the problem's history and what posters had told me in the earlier thread, he agreed completely about the situation. Said he'd seen it in MANY Dells and he didn't like 'em either. Won't even carry them anymore. I asked about the price and advisability of repair and he said why, when the replacement part would be just as crappy as the original.
However, he did have one suggestion that I'm mortified to admit I'd never even thought about. When the computer was donated to me as refurbished, I stupidly assumed that meant updated as well. So when the repairman said not, I spent half the day (weak wifi signal, massive backlog) updating the POS laptop in hopes of getting a little more service from it before it croaks. I'll just unload stuff every evening when I turn it off, knowing that one day it will refuse to turn on.
And then I don't know if anyone could pay me to take another Dell. I have got an older Chromebook but don't prefer it only because of the smaller screen. Also, until recently I didn't have a signal booster strong enough to pull in enough juice for it to recognize. Guess it's time for new eyeglasses, then!
