Does anyone know why my computer won't open secure websites?

I've tried deleting cookies, clearing the history, everything I know to think of. I've tried using Firefox, Google Chrome, and even Internet Explorer. Nothing works. If the site's address starts with HTTPS then the computer will just sit there doing nothing. I swear I'm getting so frustrated I'm ready to throw the damned thing in the middle of the street and become a luddite!

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I'll admit I'm as illiterate as they come when it comes to computers, but this one really has me puzzled.

Which version are you using ? I'm on version 30. You click the question mark in Settings and then About Firefox.

Once we know your version, we can be more helpful. Thanks.

on the upper right hand side of your browser is the settings thing, the horizontal bars. Click that.

Now click Options. Then click the Security icon. What are your settings ?

Warn me when sites try to install add ons.

Block reported attack sites.

Block reported web forgeries.

The other two are unchecked.

Can you type it here ?

By the way, have you done an anti-malware and antivirus scan lately ?

I haven't run an anti malware scan, but I have run Avast antivirus software and everything seems to be ok.

You might want to download an antimalware program, just to 100% eliminate that angle.

Try another https site. See if you can open that one too.

BTW this is a site for IE:

This is a real head scratcher. I'll give it a shot. I'm trying to get some work done for my mom at the same time so this may take a while.

and neither one seemed to help so I took it to the repair shop on Friday and he said it should be done by Monday. I borrowed my sister's laptop until then.

I sure appreciate all of your help.
