Andrew Neil calls Alex Jones an idiot in Sunday Politics clash

The BBC's Sunday Politics show is generally a rather sedate affair, heavy on serious interviews and light on controversy. But viewers were treated to a highly charged confrontation between host Andrew Neil and US conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, which saw the latter labelled the worst person to be interviewed on the show and an idiot.

The shock jock had been invited on the show alongside journalist David Aaronovitch to discuss the secretive Bilderberg conference, which has been taking place near Watford over the past week.

But having been asked on several occasions to let his co-guest speak, Jones launched into a tirade about several conspiracy theories detailed on his website.

He was cut off by Neil, but when he continued to rant, the presenter said: "You are the worst person I've ever interviewed," before thanking Aaronovitch and continuing with the show.

Brilliant sota voce take down. While Jones continues to yell and spew spittle, the host is pulling a Biden on him by openly laughing. Finally, the camera focussed on host Andrew Neil, still grinning ear-to-ear while Jones is still yelling at the top of his lungs.

You can hardly hear what Neil is saying but his gestures speak much louder than the certifiable -- and hopefully soon to be straight jacketed -- Alex Jones.

An absolutely beautiful take down as only Auntie Beeb could do.

Hoisted on his own petard, Alex Jones.

Well worth a viewing. It's short. Go ahead and click on through.

Here's the short clip (1:20):

Here's the whole segment (cannot vouch for this -- expect head exploding illogic):

every country has its nutcases.

I don't think you could get much more embarrassing than the UK's David Irving, for example.

Or look up 'Lord Monckton' if you want to see one of our more embarrassing semi-political figures.

Or Nadine Dorries - and she actually got ELECTED to Parliament.

but the Republicans & the teabaggers here are just too many in number.

And I love the backbone shown by the British; what you see is what you get & they do not suffer fools lightly.

Conspiracy theorists dismiss Alex Jones as government conspiracy to make conspiracy theorists look stupid.

Conspiracy theorists have dismissed US talk radio host Alex Jones as a government stooge designed to make conspiracy theorists look ridiculous, following his meltdown on live BBC television.

Jones used his appearance on Andrew Neil’s Politics Show to make shouty conspiracy theorists appear mentally ill in front of an audience of millions.

Viewer Simon Williams told us, “I’ve always had a bit of time for conspiracy theorists, as it takes guts to look at things so differently – but clearly Alex Jones is absolutely deranged.”

“Shouty Americans are quite annoying at the best of times, but this guy is so vociferous about his ‘conspiracies’ that I actually feel a bit sorry for him.”
