Louise Mensch wrong to back Sun on Harry pictures, says Nadine Dorries

Dorries accused Mensch of unprofessional behaviour for leaving a meeting of the Commons culture select committee, which was hearing from James and Rupert Murdoch. As she left Mensch reportedly said to James Murdoch that they had children of the same age.

Dorries wrote: "Having schmoozed the Murdochs in a select committee, followed up by her backing of their sad decision to print the photographs, who knows, maybe she will be luckier in the job stakes this time now that she has made herself available, having walked away from a seat she knew she may lose at the next election?

"However, I would ask the former MP, next time she wants to open her mouth about a boy who lost his mother at the hands of the media in a way which shocked the world, she might want to look to her own heart and wonder how she would feel? After all, it's not as though Prince Harry has admitted to taking illegal drugs, abandoned his post, or failed to turn up to work every Thursday in the style of Louise Mensch, now is it?"

I honestly haven't laughed as much since Frankie Boyle's Lord Mandelson rant on Mock The Week. Wonderful.

4. Reminds me

The few Tory-supporting women I've known have tended to loathe other women, even other Tory women.

5. That's not my experience of Tory women!

The ones I've known certainly haven't been noticably more bitchy then other women. Sometimes snobby and/or bigoted, but that's much like Tory men really.

As to Nadine Dorries, it's not her religious right politics that worry me, it's her dishonesty and vindictiveness. There's a very good argument to be made that publishing naked photo's of Prince Harry is not in the public interest, but she's not so much making an argument about that as making a personal attack on another politican she clearly dislikes personally.

7. I agree about Dorries' personal nastiness!

I certainly don't like her religious-right politics, but she's hardly the only Tory to have those! But she is unusual in her sheer viciousness towards those who disagree with her; her readiness to engage in nasty smear campaigns against other politicians and even against private citizens who criticize her and her policies. Her vicious campaign against 'Humphrey Cushion' as a supposed 'benefit scrounger' was utterly horrible. And while plenty of politicians have affairs, she was probably the only one to denounce her lover's estranged wife (and get his daughter to do the same) on her MP's blog.

Only good thing about her is that she creates lots of headaches for Cameron and the Party in general.

9. For politicians all the real enemies are in your own party

You may or may not like your opponents in the other parties but they are something you only have to face at elections. Your colleagues on your own benches are competing with you for influence, positions and safe constituencies all the time. Moreover, in the Conservative party this Darwinian conflict can become particularly brutal which is why they resort to 'leader sacrifice' so much more often than Labour.

As for Mensch she is pretty widely reviled by most of Tories now for cutting and running in the middle of the Parliament. She has left her party with an unwinnable by-election in Corby which will further weaken Cameron's position in the Commons. Political etiquette would have dictated that she should have held off until the General Election before going rather than legging it to a better job with Uncle Rupert at the first opportunity. The story about prince Harry is just a side issue. Mensch's whoring for the Murdoch press is the final straw for most Tories who will approve Dorries' comments even if they dont much like Dorries herself.

6. I've not really found that

In my experience, strong Tories of both sexes tend to be rather arrogant and self-righteous. Among Tories, males and younger females tend to be more self-righteous about their hard work and supposed 'successfulness', whereas older Tory females tend to be more self-righteous about manners and morals. But I haven't found Tories as such super-bitchy (though they have plenty of other faults!). The bitchiest person I've ever known IRL was a fairly left-wing male.

Having said that, right-wing journalists do seem to be quite a bitchy species!

8. I agree with much of what you and TIB wrote

Perhaps it is a 'sample bias' on my part but it just has been the case that the vast majority of Tory women I've known have been rather virulent female-on-female misogynists.

I also agree that such behaviour isn't consigned to the Right. I've unfortunately come across bigotry on the Left. I am a lefty who's seen all sorts of "Bitchiness" in the patch-work of far left parties.

11. Nadine Dorries to appear on "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out Here"

Anyone else here remember what a disaster reality TV was for George Galloway? Note that the Telegraph article has got a quote on this from none other then Lousie Mensch.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/9657998/Im-a-Celebrity-Nadine-Dorries-faces-questions-over-conduct-as-Tory-MP.html

Nadine Dorries, a frequent critic of David Cameron, signed up to spend up to a month away from her Bedfordshire constituency and the House of Commons without consulting her party.

The controversial MP has already flown to Australia to prepare for the show, which could earn her up to 40,000 for the appearance, on top of her 65,000-plus MP salary.

Conservative sources said the party is likely to look into whether Mrs Dorries is breaking the MPs' code of conduct, which says she must "always behave with probity and integrity". Today Home Secretary Theresa May said: "Frankly, I think an MPs job is in their constituency and in the House of Commons.

The MP could be disciplined if she misses a crucial vote on the EU budget and fails to turn up for George Osborne's autumn statement on the economy. Downing Street declined to comment.

15. Nadine Dorries suspended as Tory MP in I'm a Celebrity row

Nadine Dorries has been suspended by the Conservative Party over her decision to appear on ITV1's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here.

The Mid-Bedfordshire MP has had the whip withdrawn, a party source said.

Ms Dorries will be the first sitting MP to appear on the show, which could see her being away from her job in the Commons for up to a month.

The chief whip will meet her when she returns from Australia, when she will be expected to explain herself.

16. They are two of the most irresponsible, lazy skivers in British politics...

talk about being workshy scroungers!

If I was the Labour MP whom Mensch defeated, I'd be particularly furious that she'd taken the job and then shown so little appreciation of it (I'm sure Palin's opponent must have felt the same in Alaska!)

And Dorries is just such a vile individual, quite apart from being a crap MP.
