Hebert: Harper’s alienation of Quebec just what the Liberals need

MONTREAL—My neighbourhood drugstore was dealing with an acute stamp shortage last week. It had not run out of supplies altogether but some customers did not want to buy the few stamps it still had on offer. When presented with the Diamond Jubilee issue, many opted to take their shopping to a better-supplied counter.

For the record, the drugstore is located in a staunchly federalist section of Outremont.

At about the same time, the Quebec allotment of Jubilee medals was landing on Premier Jean Charest’s doorstep. It never made it to his desk. Instead the Ottawa package was swiftly redirected to the lieutenant-governor for handling.

In Quebec federalist quarters, including the provincial government, the Conservative monarchist rebranding of the country is seen as an ill-advised return to Canada’s colonial past.

Justin Trudeau is not the first front-line Quebec federalist to speak out in strikingly stark terms against Harper’s government, writes Chantal Hébert

1. Let us be honest

The English Canadians cling to the French because they help bloster theior own image as "Not yanks." However, it will only be a matter of time before les Canadiens realize that they never will be considered a part of Canadian society, no matter how many politicans get sent to Ottawa. If the rest of Canada does not want them to leave, they will need to realize that the Alberta creeps need to be brought to heel, much as frankly, many of their kin in spirit down in Dixie also need to remember why they LOST of Civil War. If not, Quebec may get tired of waiting for their Anglican cousins to grow up, and leave.

2. Well

One should always be honest. Unless, that is, one is a politican.

And your comprehension of Canadian history leaves much to be desired.

3. perhaps

But then again I only have to listens to Canadians of both English and French stripe talk about how much they hate each other. They like to do that in Florida.
