Harper pardons farmers convicted years ago of selling grain in the U.S.

"Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the pardons on Wednesday on a farm near Kindersley, Sask., where he and Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz marked what the government calls marketing freedom day."

King Steve can now grant pardons??? I thought that is solely the job of the National Parole Board of Canada, and only after meeting all the criteria and proper paperwork.

And this from the guy who just changed the rules requiring everyone (regardless of what crime) in need of a pardon to wait 5 years instead of 3, thereby further punishing those who have already paid the price and are trying to re-integrate into the workforce and society.

Within a year Canadian taxpayers will have to bail out wheat farmers who will have lost their shirts without the wheat board they had voted to keep.
