I wonder why our judges, courts, elected officials don't care about this abuse? I wonder why this abuse has been allowed to go on for over two years? I wonder public safety erodes speech but not fire arms?

(26,624 posts)fourth amendment up held for them.... I read last week that some of our powerful have license plates that shield them from police, camera scans.. etc... So the fact that some have rights and others do not get raised via the police lawsuit against Walker who allows some police to have unions and other can not... I can't wait to see how this is interpreted....

one could find a situation where a corporation is hiding behind "free speech" while killing far more people than the attack on 9/11.

(26,624 posts)Wal-Mart has used its legal muscle countless times to appeal local zoning decisions to the county courts, to the appeals courts, and beyond. The corporation has more lawsuits than men's suits. In North Tonawanda, Wal-Mart's hounding of local residents for legal fees, membership lists and donor lists, is just another attempt by a 1 percent corporation to chill public participation and to narrow the First Amendment freedoms not just of Cathy Kern -- but of citizen activists everywhere across America.

(26,624 posts)Palpatine was the last chancellor of the Old Republic, and the mastermind behind the biggest power-grab in galactic history. Practicing forbidden Sith techniques under his alternate identity of Darth Sidious, Palpatine arranged for his public persona to deflect suspicion while receiving praise and political respect. In time he moved from a senator representing Naboo to the Republic's Supreme Chancellor, and used the power of his office to launch the Clone Wars. With Order 66 bringing about the end of the Jedi Order, Palpatine declared himself Emperor. This marked an end to his "kindly old man" charade with which he had fooled even the wisest members of the Jedi Council.

So I'm assuming you are referring to Walker...

(23,730 posts)is that during all these crackdowns since the late 90s, guns have just gotten freer and freer--it's almost like they're NOT afraid of an armed society: that in fact it polices itself, that the same people using "they'll-kick-down-yer-white-family's-door" paranoia are the ones concocting and passing the ability to kill any American anywhere

(26,624 posts)In January 2011, the Supreme Court rewrote the First Amendment to say that Congress can't restrict corporate spending to influence elections. But corporations don't deserve the same rights as people, and the financial influence of companies in our elections must be limited.

(18,998 posts)Money...
Money, get away
Get a good job with more pay
And your O.K.
Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands
And make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team
Money get back
I'm all right Jack
Keep your hands off my stack
Money, it's a hit
Don't give me that
Do goody good bullshit
I'm in the hi-fidelity
First class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet
(Sax and guitar solos)
Money, it's a crime
Share it fairly
But don't take a slice of my pie
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil
Today
But if you ask for a rise
It's no surprise that they're
Giving none away
Away
Away
Away
Away...

(7,392 posts)For the last 40 years the constant theme of Republicans on judgeships is that they must be strict constructionists. We all knew that was bull and this "evolved" reasoning is clear proof that it was never any more than just a talking point. There is also a new breed of policeman that is borderline sadistic so plenty of things are broken and in need of fixing. But let's face it, the rule of law is not about to return any time soon -- not as long as we have the corrupting influence of Citizens United hanging over our head.

Re Bill Dunn post, your question: "Why did this never happen in Wisconsin's 165 years of history until Scott Walker became governor?"
Because, Bill, this is the first time in Wisconsin history that the core of state government has been illegitmately seized by corporate-owned political fascists, who do not hesitate to suspend civil liberties and distort or defy the constitutional rights guaranteed to this state's citizens.
Their prime directive is to discredit, divide and destroy all those agencies, civic organizations, labor unions,. . even community groups of individual citizens seeking to communicate their views and concerns.
Their goal? The permanent destruction of democracy in Wisconsin - and eventually throughout the U.S. - replacing it with an institutionalized oligarchy that maintains its control by doing away with public education, worker rights, voting rights, etc, -- creating a powerless underclass that will work to serve and fear to challenge their corporate masters -now and for generations to come.
