Sly Sylvester let go by WTDY

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/news/180409501.html#!page=3&pageSize=10&sort=newestfirst

I didn't see this one coming. I was a sporadic listener when I could for years, but when Scotty "dropped the bawmb" (thanks Sly) I found myself turning him on far more regularly. I assume many others did as well which makes me wonder how his ratings could have been the reason for his dismissal.

Thanks for the great run brother and hope to hear you when you catch on with another station. Solidarity!

Look for Fox News clones to arrive in their place.

I listened into the pod-casts after my work day, and was wondering why today's were not up and this explains it. Sly is one of the few progressive voices in the state and not having him on the airwaves hurts. State wide progressive radio online would be cool but the sponsorship would just not be available in my mind to make it work, but Sly had sponsorship so you never know. This looked like an ideological/national change. Way to spoil the food on Thanksgiving WTDY.

The station never did very well in the ratings, and having all those local personalities and news staff had to be expensive. They didn't over-rely on syndicated shows, unlike most talk radio stations.

Wonder how soon it will be until he winds up on The Mic. In his favor, he's well-known, gets decent ratings and most importantly, has sponsors.

At least Clear Channel decided NOT to flip 92.1 the Mic from progressive to sports six years ago! Maybe the station will hire Sly next year, who knows? John Nichols wrote about Sly's layoff.

I was late, and getting there just as he was leaving, so I didn't hear what he had to say. But I have to believe he's laying the groundwork for his next gig.

I'm actually more worried about Dylan and the others, who are not as high profile (by Dane County standards), and might have more trouble finding his next job.
