We have deer all over the place here in the Manistee National Forest. You can't swing a cat, let alone drive on the roads without hitting one. They're so dumb that they run right into cars, trucks, tractors, or anything.
Here's the deal. If the herd is not culled by hunting, many deer will starve this winter. There are just too damned many of them. And many more people would be endangered by car collisions. The road I drive 10 miles to town has a dead deer on the side regularly. I have hit more than a couple, mostly from the deer running directly into my vehicle.
The hunters around here are careful and responsible, so I don't feel threatened by the shooting. Myself, I don't hunt but I fully support hunting.
