Press Should Stop Writing Sob Stories About Poor People

and who do you think this came from??? ah, yah, you got it....Eric Hovde, GOP Senate Candidate from Wisconsin.

Wisconsin U.S. Senate candidate Eric Hovde (R) says he is sick and tired of reading sad stories about people struggling in the recession. Instead, he wants to see the media focus more on the debt and the larger problems afflicting the country.

Hovde made his remarks during a presentation on Friday to the Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce.

During the Q&A portion of the event, Hovde expressed his support for lowering the corporate tax rate, tackling the country's spending problems and lowering the national debt.

Then, pointing to a reporter in the audience, Hovde said he would love to see the press stop covering sad stories about low-income individuals who can't get benefits and start covering issues like the deficit more frequently.

"I see a reporter here," he said. "I just pray that you start writing about these issues. I just pray. Stop always writing about, 'Oh, the person couldn't get, you know, their food stamps or this or that.' You know, I saw something the other day -- it's like, another sob story, and I'm like, 'But what about what's happening to the country and the country as a whole?' That's going to devastate everybody."

In fact, journalists already give short shrift to stories about individuals struggling in the recession.

In May 2011, National Journal looked at the nation's five largest newspapers and counted how many times "unemployment" or "deficit" appeared in their headlines or first sentences. The analysis found that unemployment was covered significantly less than the deficit.

This is how these people get these seats....start early, keep drilling these talking points, and win in November......Ron Johnson is now the US Senator from Wisconsin, defeating Russ Feingold, and this bozo is going to replace Mr. Kohl.

1. I agree with him, in statement if not principle

Cut the "sob stories" about poor people.

And do some good attack exposés on the people who made them poor.

2. In order to cover the debt one would have to talk about

the origins of that debt. Since the Clinton administration was actually paying down the debt, the focal point would become W and the unfunded wars. Then he would scream about the "backward looking liberal media" and howl about the unfairness of it all.

3. I wish the press would start covering stories about how the

people who live off of the tax payers and avoid paying their fair share need to stop being in charge of the machines that tally our votes... Because if the news reporters ever started to do their jobs, this poor man wouldn't stand a chance....

4. "Charity is a strong principle within the Hovde family and related businesses."

" Mr. Hovde, along with his brother, Steven, created and funded the Hovde Foundation, an organization that actively supports two central missions – clinical research in search of a cure for Multiple Sclerosis and charitable relief in devastated areas around the world.

Mr. Hovde has actively participated in and funded relief programs in Africa, South America, Latin America and the United States. Further, he has financed and oversees the construction & operation of Hovde Houses, which are homes that provide shelter, supportive services, education and love to vulnerable street children. The Hovde Foundation has established Hovde Houses in Mexico City; Huanuco, Peru; Winneba, Ghana; Kigali, Rwanda; and Mombasa, Kenya. Mr. Hovde has also funded a homeless shelter for children and their parents complete with case work managers and job training, in his hometown of Madison, Wisconsin.

Mr. Hovde earned his degrees in Economics and International Relations at the University of Wisconsin. He resides in Madison, Wisconsin and is married and has two children."http://hovdefoundation.org/about/erichovde/

5. Is that verifiable?

Other than his own campaign page, that is. If so, we may have found the lone, mysterious, and often referenced compassionate conservative. Me doubts it though.

8. His hometown?

I heard he has lived in Washington DC for the past 24 years and recently moved here to pick off a Senate seat.
