can anyone tell me the status of open carry laws and other gun regulations in Washington?
We lived there some years ago but moved home to Texas. We are considering moving back now that we are empty nesters. One of our issues is open carry laws in Texas. My wife teaches full time (government) at a University her. As you may know, campus carry in Texas goes into effect this summer. We are definitely leaving. My wife even asked me if I would be interested in the American University in Kabul - got to be as safe as here!
There are gun nuts everywhere. Oregon, Michigan ....
We lived in Tumwater for about 3 years and were very active in Dem politics there. Melodie was in AFSCME - on the collective bargaining committee.

(25,771 posts)I was looking for some anecdotal information about the attitude the feel of the situation there. As I said, there are gun nuts everywhere. Attitudes in East Wash differ from the Puget Sound. Attitudes i Texas differ from everywhere else in this frickin country.

(66,096 posts)the nation's gun crazies seem to be located in rural areas, and in the Mid-West and South.
We had a school shooting here a while ago, but we don't seem to be the redneck free-for-all of places like Texas and Florida.

(25,771 posts)I don't know if you have seen the things about Texas profs. at UT. Some are getting ready to leave. Melodie teaches government and is pretty open to controversial issues being discussed in her class - in fact, that is her method of teaching. We have had flat tires and the truck has been keyed. Campus open carry in her classroom is a bridge too far.
We really liked being up there before, but had to come home to take care of some property we owns here, That has since been sold to put my daughter through college, and now we are empty nesters.
When we were in Tumwater/Olympia we were pretty active in Dem politics there. My daughter Abby represented WA at the Young Dems convention in Rochester NY and went to Boston as a page to the WA delegation.

(2,470 posts)I've only seen one person open carry in an area that you wouldn't expect to see a gun.
Getting a concealed carry permit is pretty easy and I'd guess there are quite a few people carrying. Probably not as many as in red states though.
In the Puget Sound/I-5 corridor there doesn't seem to be a lot of gun culture people. That changes once you get to Centralia, Chehalis and the further away from Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia you get.
