The great tech migration: Silicon Valley people increasingly searching for Seattle homes

What's driving up the cost of Seattle housing you ask?

It seems like Silicon Valley and Bay Area residents are finally getting fed up with rising home prices and crowded cities.

One in four people who live in the Bay Area searched for homes outside the area, according to data from Seattle online real estate brokerage Redfin. That’s up from one in seven people in 2014.

Many of them are looking to relocate to the Puget Sound region. The number of people from the Bay Area looking for homes in Seattle has quadrupled in four years.

One in every 13 prospective homebuyers who live in the Bay Area is looking for homes only in the Pacific Northwest.

That huge growth shows the impact of Seattle’s technology boom, which is on its way to rivaling the vibrant tech ecosystem in Silicon Valley and San Francisco.

Bay Area companies have been opening engineering offices in Seattle nearly every week in recent months, and the employees and entrepreneurs are following suit.

My sister has recently been talking about moving to Seattle from LA.

I wonder how many of them know that the Puget Sound is ripe for a big earthquake soon, just in case that's a reason for them moving up here!

If it happens it happens. More earthquakes occur in California so I doubt that'll discourage anyone from moving here.

And in a different year mean sales prices for homes and condos rose 32%. 2012 - 2013.

I would never have been able to afford it if not for buying at auction.
