Lovettsville rids town of vulture problem with inflatable whales
Tuesday, Mar. 8, 2016 by Crystal Owens
Lovettsville town officials placed inflated, plastic orca whales in the rungs of its water tower to scare away vultures. Times-Mirror/Ed Felker
Lovettsville has one whale of a tale to tell when it comes to discouraging vultures from taking over the town. ... Town officials, in an attempt to discourage dozens of vultures from nesting on top of Lovettsville's water tower, placed inflated, plastic orca whales in the structure's rungs.
Not surprisingly, the took some ribbing from residents and others for its method. ... Turns out, town officials may be getting the last laugh.
As of Tuesday, aside from a few stragglers, the vultures are gone, said Laszlo Palko, the town's manager.
Palko said the town was advised by a contractor that another jurisdiction had success in riding itself of vultures by using the orcas.

OP
Yep. Fewer vultures, more wild pigs and dogs. Vultures may not be pretty, but they are important. nt

Interesting approach to a problem. I wonder if it would work for starlings?
